8 I'm sick of seeing that silhouette next to my posts! How do I change it?

The silhouette appears next to your posts if you haven't chosen a profile photo for yourself. This is common practice for every social networking site I know of: facebook, myspace, twitter, etc - even Skype! It is an identifier for other users.

Most users choose to use photos of themselves - headshots work best, as they are quite close up. However, DO NOT FEEL OBLIGED to use a photo of yourself if you don't want to! Your profile photo instead could be a photo of something you like, or something which indicates a particular aspect of your personality / the things you like / your most important role in life. For example, if you like the beach, your photo could be of your feet on the sand. Or if you loved photography, you photo could be of a camera. Maybe you could choose a picture of a sunset / your pet / your grandchildren / whatever your heart desires, really. Just make sure it's not offensive!

So now you've decided what photo to use, click on the 'Talk about... Me' button, then on 'Edit Profile'. Scroll down to the box, underneath 'Account Information', called 'Picture', and it refers to your profile photo. Just like posting an image, you will need to choose the file you have decided on, and upload it. Note the file limitations have changed - it is now Maximum dimensions 1600x1400 and the maximum size is 5000 kB. Once you have chosen and uploaded the picture, scroll down to the bottom of the page, click on 'Post', and it will be saved.

Congratulations! You've changed your profile photo!
