1 What is Skype?

Skype is a software program that is free to download from the Internet. It allows the users to make free calls to eachother, with no geographical or time limit. These calls can be either voice only, or videocalls. So for example, if you have a webcam, and so does your son in London, you can use Skype to not only talk to him through your computers, but also to see him, at any time of day or night, for as long as you like. For free! Beats STD and IDD fees!

If you use Skype to call landlines or mobile phones, these do incur a fee, however. Skype also has instant messaging, file transfer and video conferencing features. However, Skype can NOT be used for emergency calls (ie. to 000 in Australia, 911 in America, etc). Skype is owned by eBay.
